Website Design and Development RFPs: What's the Best RFP Site?

The quality of website design and development RFPs for sale online varies wildly.

Some RFP portals claim to sell "qualified" leads but are actually massive databases of government projects scraped from thousands of agencies. You can spend hours sorting through 50-page RFPs only to find they're completely irrelevant to your agency.

So are all RFP subscription sites worthless? Do good web design RFPs actually exist online?

Yes—but you need to know what to look for.

4 Criteria for a Good Website Design RFP

    1. Realistic Budget ($20,000+)

For most web design and development projects, realistic budgets fall in the $20,000–$100,000+ range. If a client hasn't stated a budget above this threshold, they may not be worth pursuing.

    2. Actively Looking to Hire

Unlike scraped lead lists, a good RFP comes from someone who knows they have a problem and is actively looking to pay an agency to solve it right now. This makes the sales process dramatically easier.

    3. Strong Organization Reputation

Scammy-looking companies make bad clients. If an organization doesn't look reputable, their RFP probably isn't worth pursuing—even if the budget looks good.

    4. Realistic Scope of Work

A realistic scope paired with an appropriate budget usually means realistic expectations throughout the project. If someone wants an eBay clone in 3 days, that's an obvious red flag.

These four criteria are the bare minimum. You might choose to be even more specific—filtering by industry, tech stack, or project type.
